History
Founded by Kobo Daishi. It is said that he named the temple Komyozan Jurakuji with the hope that “in this world, people cannot escape from the hardships of life, old age, sickness and death, but even in such a situation, they can find ten bright lights and enjoyment."
1528 (Tensho 10), It was destroyed by fire during the battle of Chosokabe Motochika. The principal image survived the fire and was rebuilt in 1635 (Kanei 12) at its current location about 3km south during the early Edo period.
In 1994 (Heisei 6), the current wooden main hall was built.
