History
It is a temple that is closely related to the legend of Kobo Daishi’s “Sutemigadake".
Kobo Daishi realized that his life would be saved and his wish would come true. After growing into a young man, he carved the principal image on the summit of Mt. Gahaishi. Then he built a temple and founded the Shusshakaji.
This place used to be a bill place called “Sutemigagoku Zenjo”, but now it is Okunoin and is located about 50 minutes up a steep slope from the precincts. Furthermore, the place where Kobo Daishi threw himself when he was 7 years old is located about 50m above here. It is a kusari zenjo, and a stone goma altar is built on the cliff, and a statue of Chigo Daishi is enshrined.
In addition, Kobo Daishi practiced the Gumonjiho," in which he recited the mantra of Kokuzo Bosatsu a million times, so the nameGumonji-in" was attached. It is said that there are benefits for academic achievement and forgetfulness, and it is said that a wonderful memory can be obtained.
Highlight
【Daishido】The Daishido hall has a dignified and stately appearance. It is rare that the Daishido is larger than the main hall.
【Sutemigatake Yohaisho】It is built within the precincts, and it is said that if you pray here, you will receive the same amount of benefits without climbing to the top.
It is about 2 km (about 5 minutes by car) to the next 74th bill place “Koyamaji"!
